#5 Kim de gezelle
WHO AM I?
I am Kim De Gezelle, 49 years old and the proud mom of three daughters between 14 and 20 years old. I lived in Wezembeek-Oppem as a child and youth and returned to Wezembeek-Oppem with my family in 2011. I worked for about ten years as a Dutch teacher in a French-speaking secondary school. Since 2018, I have been working in a Freinet school where I feel completely at home among like-minded people, tackling daily challenges with an open and positive outlook.
In my spare time, I sing (and dance) in the choir of Blos, a non-profit organization active in Wezembeek-Oppem and I am also a board member of this non-profit organization. I am also a yoga teacher, with which I have found my great passion.
My Motivations
Sometimes a tremendous challenge comes your way... I jumped in because I completely agree with the project proposed by Horizon. Sustainability, respect for the language and culture of others, a municipality in which the health and well-being of the inhabitants are a priority, stimulating local entrepreneurship, promoting connections between people, ... All this in a constructive atmosphere that transcends self-interest and personal ambition, I too want to put my shoulders to the wheel!
With our school we want to improve the world, we strive with great ambition! We achieve small successes every day and see that many students blossom openly and at the end of their journey are grateful because we make a priority of respect, openness, creativity and cooperation so that each student can be themselves. We teach them to be open to being “different,” especially by leading by example ourselves. Our school is built with the whole team, we put a lot of time and energy into finding the best solutions that everyone agrees with by making decisions together. Our school is a true democracy where everyone is taken into account. I am convinced that this will help me to participate in the City Council in a constructive way. I feel that at Horizon I can continue the ambition of our school: to make Wezembeek-Oppem a nicer and warmer municipality by respecting and valuing everyone, without prejudice.
my Priorities
1. Putting the health and well-being of residents first in every decision the municipality makes and listening to what really resonates with the population.
2. Organize activities that transcend language borders so that every resident feels at home, welcome and involved.
3. Support local entrepreneurs, specifically in the transition to greater sustainability.
4. Encourage residents to do their part to create a green and sustainable municipality with practical support, concrete tips and attractive joint purchases.
Together for a warm, vibrant and sustainable community!
